Why I Took a Break—and Where I’m Heading Now

Taking a Break

It’s been more than two years since my last post, and during that time, I’ve gone through significant personal changes that have shifted my priorities. Writing took a backseat as I navigated these transitions, and I’m sure some of you have noticed my absence. I touched on this in a previous post.

One major reason for stepping away was the loss of my son, a deeply personal experience that reshaped my life. Grief has a way of changing your perspective, and during this time, I needed space to heal and reflect. Writing felt impossible as I processed such a profound loss, but that period of reflection has brought me back here with renewed purpose. This period also made me think more about mental health and support for those of us that are older. I ended 2 long friendships during this time. One was a 46 yearlong friendship. I never received a call or text from either. Just a sad emoji on the post of his obituary on Facebook and I thought, nope. If there is ever a time you need support, it is with the loss of a child. I want to go more into grief and friendships in my mental health blog. This is not a short minor topic for me.

Rediscovering My Passion for Writing

Despite the break, the pull to return to writing never faded. I’ve found new inspiration in exploring health and wellness topics, particularly for women over 50, which is why I’m excited to re-launch this blog with a fresh perspective.

This journey has reminded me of the importance of caring for our mental and physical well-being, especially in the face of life’s challenges. I’ve experienced firsthand how maintaining a positive outlook, even in the hardest times, can transform your life. What once felt like a “Pollyanna” perspective on positivity now feels like an essential tool for healing and moving forward. A positive mindset is something I have seen before and dismissed as unrealistic but found a different perspective life changing.

3. Introducing My New Blog: Empowered Minds, Thriving Lives

During my time away, I also felt a growing passion for addressing mental health in aging populations. As a nurse practitioner, I’ve seen how often mental health is overlooked, especially as we age. That’s why I’m launching a new blog: Empowered Minds, Thriving Lives, which will focus on mental health, aging, and how we can thrive emotionally and mentally as we grow older.

Empowered Minds, Thriving Lives will explore topics like managing anxiety, cognitive health, and practical strategies to maintain emotional well-being. I’ll dive deeper into mental health issues that affect many of us, offering insights and actionable steps to help others on their journey.

4. What to Expect Moving Forward

In the coming weeks, I’ll be alternating posts between this blog and Empowered Minds, Thriving Lives. Here, I’ll continue to share useful health tips, such as supplements for muscle growth and aging gracefully, while the new blog will focus on mental wellness strategies. I’m excited about the future and hope you’ll join me on both blogs as we explore what it means to live with vitality and purpose, no matter where we are in life.

I am eager to start this new chapter and I hope you will join me on the journey. I would love any comments and suggestions you have as I am not a professional blogger. I hope to improve along the way.

Thank you for sticking with me. I’m grateful to be back and eager to share what I’ve learned along the way.
