Regrets
How many of us visit a place often in our head where our regret, trauma or heartbreak live? Social media often allows us to visit people or events that are in our past and should remain there. How much time have I wasted being sad or regretting something I did or didn’t do? If we are busy looking behind us then we are not looking forward. We will miss so many opportunities. I suppose depending on how old you are maybe this is not a thing for you? I can tell you at my age I have more than a few. Bad decisions will haunt you if you let them. Maybe you don’t even realize you do this. Something reminds you of someone from your past and the next thing you know you find you have spent the last 30 minutes giving them real estate in your head. Do they even deserve your 30 minutes? Likely not. Have you ever heard the saying there is a reason your rearview mirror is so small and your windshield is so big? We are meant to pay attention to the future ahead.
Do you know that when you ask God for forgiveness, he does just that. He forgives us and forgets our sins.
Micah 7:19 He will again have compassion on us: he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all of our sins into the depth of the sea.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even, I and the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.
God tosses that all into his sea of forgetfulness. Why can’t we? Why do we have such a hard time forgiving ourselves? Maybe we try and are successful for a time but the minute something reminds us, we pull that memory back out and paw through it again. Then how do you feel? Exhausted and a little less hopeful? Unless you have something you still need to learn, it is time to move on. We need to learn whatever lesson we were being taught and take it as education and move on. And I think we do that but then turn back and go through that door again. Maybe it is a person that is no longer in your life? Just know that if that person was supposed to be a permanent person in your life, they would still be in it. I believe everyone comes to your life for a reason. We can learn from everyone. Possibly, they taught you something and their time is done. Let them go. Nail that door shut and turn around and go. Focus on your future and make plans.
Do you know the story of the Great Escape in the Bible? Where God uses Moses to rescue the Jewish people enslaved in Egypt. God had Moses part the Sea and lead them out of captivity. Those people, even after seeing all of the miracles the God brought out for them, still they doubted. These people ended up wandering in the wilderness for 40 years because of their lack of faith. I don’t want to wander anymore, especially for 40 years. It is time to move on. God won’t give you new until your hands are empty of the past.
