Day 37 and craft your life

Goals

  1. Closer relationship with God- Today was Corinthians Chapter 14 where Paul concludes spiritual gifts. He tells us to always pursue love because without love nothing else matters that we do. This chapter goes over the gift of prophesy and tongues and tells us that God is never the author of confusion.
  2. Get Fit/Strong- Today is my 3rd lower body day for the week. I followed the same routine as Wed, no change in weight yet. It is also my second day on the 75Hard. I got the water down yesterday, taking it day by day.
  3. House Organization- working on my closet today, took out a garbage bag of clothes to give away, some with price tags still on them.
  4. Write- 15 minutes
  5. Camper reno- video today

Crafting a life

What is on my heart today is that we need to be present in our lives and be the author. I never mean to go against God, because God has a will for our lives. I am saying be an active participant in your life. This may sound simple and maybe you are already aware. How easy is it to get caught up in the business of life? Maybe you are raising your kids and checking off that list of daily chores. One day you look around and realize that your kids are grown and you have more life behind you than you do ahead of you. Your life is the cumulative effect of all of those small little decisions that you made over the years. We get so caught up in being busy that we lose track of our lives I think. I was so caught up in working that I didn’t track my life. I was not planning my day to day or what I wanted for my life 5 years from now.

What I mean by being the author is to deliberately track and have a plan for improving. What prompted this was a book I was listening to this morning called The Compound Effect. It is sort of like the compound interest effect on money, the same concept applies to your life. These small little decisions that you make on auto pilot everyday, they have huge effects 10-20 years down the road. For example, you eat a little fun size candy bar every day at work, 200 calories. What happens when you give that up? You save 200 calories a day, doesn’t seem like much in the scheme of things right? That candy bar adds up to and extra pound every 17 days or 21 extra pounds every year. What about 10 years from now? 210 pounds. What about that coffee you buy everyday on the way to work? Or that shirt you bought on a whim? Over 10 years these small little decisions add up. The author recommends keeping a small little notebook and tracking. If you are trying to lose weight or save money or maybe use time more efficiently, write it down. He used finance and said to write every single thing you spend money on, write it down for 3 weeks.

All of these thoughts made me think about life, how much of our life do we live on autopilot, never making a conscious decision about every thing we do. We are responsible for our life. It seems like a given but do we think about this everyday? I know I don’t or didn’t . But man do I think about it now . I think 60 was a major turning point for me and is making me realize how much of my life has been autopilot life. When you face the end of life it really makes you think. I hope to catch someone that is younger so they have the chance to live life more deliberately. Have a plan for everything, for everyday and your future. Craft your life.
