Day 36 and embarking on a new challenge

Goals

  1. Closer relationship with God- Today was Corinthians Chapter 13. Paul talks of integrity and love. I read the King James Version and it uses Charity in place of the word love. I should say that it is talking of agape love. I guess in many ways they can be interchangeable. Paul tells us that love should drive our every action. The chapter ends with verse 13 “and now abideth faith, hope and charity, these three: but the greatest of this is charity”. The greatest and likely the hardest for many of us. How many can say they have a love for a stranger? This chapter is called the love chapter.

2. Get fit/strong- Today is upper body day. Benched 100 lbs for 3 sets of 6. Upright rows 30 lbs x 3 sets of 10, pec deck flys 30lbs 3 sets of 10, bicep curls 18 lbs 3 sets of 10, pull downs on pec deck 90 lbs 3 sets of 10 , seated flys 10 lbs 3 sets of 10 and 15 push ups.

3. House organization- looking for a solution for books, I have many books and my book shelves are full.

4. Write – 15 minutes today

5. Camper reno- videos , raining again

New Challenges

So I have worked out 35 of these 36 days. I feel like the working out is becoming a habit but I don’t feel it is ingrained yet. I came across a challenge after listening to a podcast by Andy Friselli called the 75 hard. He offers this to challenge people to become mentally hard. It is free and you can find it on the internet. Basically for 75 days you: 1. follow a diet, he doesn’t specify a diet, you are supposed to eat clean. 2. no alcohol or cheat meals 3. take a daily progress picture 4. drink 1 gallon of water daily 5. read 10 pages of a non fiction book daily and 6. 2 workouts daily for 45 minutes each and 1 has to be done outside.

Now, I have some things to say about this. Make sure you get a doctor’s ok before starting anything like this. At first I thought wow 1 gallon of water is going to be a challenge for me. So for the past few days I have been building up and sadly I am at 60 oz. less than half of what I need to be. My daily workout is around 1 hour. I find it challenging on work days to fit a second work out. There is a website that lays this program all out and give you examples of each step. The catch to this entire program is if you miss one step you have to start over on day one. Is this program a little crazy ? Probably. It attracts me though I guess because it is so challenging. If I can do this I feel like nothing would be too hard. So I am going to give it a whirl and today is day 1. I picked a day I don’t work to see how the timing will work for 2 work outs. One of the work out will be cardio outside , regardless of the weather. Now there are apps for the 75 hard and they do cost. I am not buying anything for this challenge. There is also a book. I did get a journal for 9.99 on Amazon to track progress. For some people they feel they are held accountable if they pay of something. this is not true for me so I am not purchasing the app. I read everyday anyway and work out so I was more interested in getting my diet more controlled and drinking water. This challenge in now way is baby steps but I wanted to try something so here I go!

Kind of wish I had seen this during the summer as the weather would have been better. I will finish this mid January in NE Ohio. Now it is in the rainy season and in the 40-50s so still okay. I have listened to David Goggins , the navy seal , and like Friselli , Goggins will tell you that it is all mental. He will tell you that every marathon he has ran or physcial fitness challenge he accomplished was a mental challenge more than physical. You always can do more than your mind tells you that you can. You brain will always talk you into staying in your comfort zone. So today I am getting out of my comfort zone. What are you doing to challenge yourself today?
