Day 33 and impatience

Goals

1. Closer relationship with God- Today was Corinthians chapter 10. There are several passages that stand out to me, but the main one is 10:13 God is faithful, buried in the middle of that verse those 3 simple words that mean so much. God is faithful. Think about that passage, it is in the Bible approximately 36 times. What does this mean to you? For me it tells me no matter what I do or how I fail him, God is faithful.

2. Get Fit/Strong- Today is upper body day , benched with 100lbs for 3 sets of 6, upright rows, Pull ups- I use straps as I can’t do a whole body pull up yet, straight arm pull down, high cable row 1 arm, shoulder shrugs with kettle bells, shoulder flys

3. House organization- one shelf on the linen closet today

4. Write- wrote for 15 minutes

5. camper reno- watched another video on renovating

Impatience

Today I am 33 days in to working out and have seen some differences in my muscles. It is around this time I begin to be a bit impatient to see gains and things get tighter. Even though I know it takes around 12 weeks for real changes. After one month of lifting though you will notice you are stronger. If you are new to lifting the first month you will be able to increase weight fast. You may not notice any changes on the outside yet. You might have seen some weight gain as you gain muscle. Lifting alone will not make significant changes to your weight if you are still eating the same. Weight lifting does speed up your metabolism for hours after a weight lifting session. Prior to me beginning to lift again I was doing the OMAD or one meal a day. After beginning lifting I was too hungry for this so I went back to intermittent fasting and eat between 12 and 6pm. There are still a lot of weeding to be done in my diet. I notice now that I am lifting I am more interested in getting the most out of it so I am working on my diet now. This time I know that this has to be a lifetime habit, no more putting it back down again at 60. I know I am in a marathon not a sprint. So this time my impatience is not a big thing. I have noticed the changes in my day to day routine, it is easier to get out and in my vehicle. Stairs are easier, after hours at my desk at work I stand and am not stiff. These are all small wins but substantial to my day to day life. The reason I did a goal with 365 day time line is because I feel a 1 year timeline is the most reasonable to get all of the lasting changes. Not only in my body but bone health and mental health. I will say though to keep myself motivated I do look at body builders on YouTube or Pinterest to keep motivated. I watch and rewatch videos of proper form. I do this not only to avoid injury but doing a set correctly will give the most gains in the muscle. I will include a link below that gives you a nice little timeline of what happens to your body when you lift.

If impatience is a thing for you like it used to be for me, then you will have to find ways to combat it because as I said this is a marathon not a sprint. Maybe you picked a different goal and are becoming inpatient. Did you pick the right timeline? Sometimes looking at something on a micro scale doesn’t allow you to see how these small changes add up in a year. If you are Christian then you know the consequences of being impatient. I have suffered the consequence a few times over my life not waiting for God. If you are not , then you may already know impatience can cause lots of problems. The one thing that finally clicked for me was thinking what happens if something takes a year. If I do it I am still going to be the same age in 1 year. Would I like to be in shape in 3 months or 6 months opposed to 1 year? Of course but the things I would have to do such as working out 2-4 hours a day and being overly strict with diet are not really sustainable for me . My workouts take 45min-1hour a day. They can be shortened to 30 minutes and I would still get most of the benefit as I do all my compounds first. For me this is sustainable . The diet thing I am doing in baby steps as I am looking at maintaining for a lifetime. This is why the 1 year goal works for me . If this doesn’t work for you then pick another timeline. Remember we get there with baby steps.
