Day 13 and the importance of consistency

Goals

  1. Closer relationship with God- Today I restarted the habit of daily journaling and writing my prayers. I have trouble at times staying on track. Praying is like meditating and it takes focus. How many times have you started praying and find you are thinking about what you have to do at work etc. Writing it out keeps you focused or praying out loud is another way. If you are interested I will include a link to a David Jerimiah video where he talks about the practice and the Biblical indications for written prayer.
  2. Get fit- Today was upper body day. I am still benching the 25s (95lbs). It is getting easier , I am doing 3 sets of 6 and failed on the last rep today, so adding weight soon. I did upright rows, over hand and under with a barbell with 20 lbs on it. Flys with 10 and overhead lifts with the 10s. Bicep curls with 15s. I did the rest of upper body with 3 sets of 8.
  3. House organization and dejunking- decided to continue getting rid of unused clots in my drawers so today I did a 3rd drawer. I will donate the stuff this weekend.
  4. Writing- today was 15 minutes but this weekend I will make a plan and schedule more time to actually work towards a book
  5. Camper reno- today was a YouTube video, gutting and repairing, it is 27 minutes so I will finish it tomorrow

Lets talk about consistency because we have all been there where you start something new and before long it drops off and the next thing you know it has been years? It is a myth that 21 days is the magic for creating a new habit. Actually , it takes around 66 days for something to become automatic. I think it is very important to consider that anytime you are not working on your goals, you are giving up on yourself. The book I am listening to on Audible by Joe Navarro, Be Exceptional, he talks about how even cutting a workout short is giving up on yourself. I have started thinking about everything I do in terms of not quitting on me. This is something in the past I would do. If I needed more time in my schedule for work etc I would not do something that day such as work out. This is how I let lifting slide by the way side. You have to look out for yourself, your job is never going to do this. I posted a link to a video by Mel Robbins below about not giving up. I saw her a few years ago and thought she had some good ideas. Also, if you want to hear a motivating story, look up David Goggins. This guy wanted to be a Navy Seal and had the odds stacked against him and he kept going.
