Day 6- self mastery

Goals

  1. Closer relationship with God- still working through Romans. David Jerimiah has a nice series in YouTube on this chapter. Many have called this chapter life changing. So far I think this is because we are forgiven because of Grace, not because we did anything to deserve it. This is my take so far on this chapter anyway.
  2. Get fit- I did upper body today. 5 different upper body and arm sets. I do 3 sets of 8 with each except benching. Sadly, I am starting with 25s so the weight I benched today was 95 lbs. I was up to 185 lbs before, should have never stopped but I can get there again. For benching I do 3 sets of 6 but man that last rep was very difficult. I did try to start with plates but nope not yet.
  3. House organization- I did some more sorting in the laundry room and got rid of some stuff that I no longer need. Baby steps
  4. Writing- I transferred the book I have on my surface to my laptop. I am still organizing the notebook. I think this just may be procrastination? Tomorrow I will focus on writing, just writing.
  5. camper reno- this will be slow until I can get it inside, I did dig in the ceiling under t he kitchen counter and saw that there is old wood rot. I think the last owner tried to renovate the camper but didn’t have the skill?

I use Ted talks often as I can play them on Youtube listening while I drive. So, in researching setting and attaining goals I have found the first step is most likely self mastery.

self-mastery[ˈˌself ˈmast(ə)rē]NOUNself-control.synonyms:determination · firmness of purpose · fixity of purpose · will power · strength of character · resolution · resolve · resoluteness · purposefulness · single-mindedness · drive · commitment · dedication · doggedness · tenacity · tenaciousness

Self mastery has been referred to as self control. Self control is only one aspect of this. I think for me it is about not letting emotions run me. I look around and I think that as humans we do run on our feelings. This is a dangerous habit, feelings come and go. You may not be a believer or religious but I am and this subject is central to Christianity. We are asked to operate out of faith and not what we feel. In this way the world view and Christian view are similar, maybe not for the same reason but for those that don’t believe, self mastery is still an important concept and central to sticking to your goals. I will be digging into this concept to see how I can use it to insure I stick with my goals.

On the topic of goals, I got my Panda planner today. I like that it has a monthly, weekly and daily section. This helps to reflect on what is working and what is not working so well . I think that this may be the key to accomplishing your goals. Panda planner also has Youtubes where they tell you the best way to use the planner and which planner might work better for you. They also slipped a coupon code in the planner for friends and family. If you have found something better that works for you let us know.
